Entry #4 Boogers

It might be wise to look away now if you are eating or have a weak stomach, but did you know that eating your boogers can actually be good for you? yes, you read that right... it can be good for you.


Parents are always telling their kids not to pick their nose, and especially not to eat their findings! "It's gross," we discourage. "You're going to get sick!"

Yeah, it sounds crazy, but it is true research has found that there are bacteria in our boogers that is actually good for our oral hygiene. Um, gross? And also, huh? Scientists have found that "salivary mucins" in our mucus can help to protect our teeth from developing cavities and oral health is a crucial cornerstone of overall health.

Our mucus contains a rich reservoir of good bacteria and findings even suggest that snot could defend against respiratory infections, stomach ulcers, and even HIV.

The researchers are even working on a synthetic mucus toothpaste and chewing gum to harness the dental benefits of boogers. They also claimed that people who ate their boogers tended to be happier and more in harmony with their bodies.


Now I'm not saying you should start picking your nose every time you have the urge to but, you should not discourage kids from doing so.
